SUMMARY:Fire. Movement. Dreams. New art collections by Ken Bichell\, Amy Fullery and Emily Anderson
DESCRIPTION:DATE\nMay 3rd from 7pm-11pm\nLocation\nSmokestack 62 E 7th St\, Dubuque\, IA 52001\nGet Directions > \nEvent Details\nJoin us May 3rd from 7pm-10pm at Smokestack for a First Friday Art Reception featuring the work of ceramicist Ken Bichell\, painter Amy Fuller and painter Emily Anderson \nDubuque Area Arts Collective invites you to the First Friday Art Reception on May 3rd from 7pm to 10pm. This event will shine a spotlight on three remarkable local artists as they unveil their new collections of works. \nUpstairs gallery: \nCeramicist Ken Bichell presents a collection of large-scale (40lb +) stoneware and porcelain pieces\, freshly crafted and fired\, attesting to Bichell’s artistry and his ability to bring clay to life in a dance with fire and alchemy. The process of firing each piece often gives unexpected results. This is where Bichell’s work transcends his own imagination\, and it offers a glimpse into a world where design meets destiny. \nAward-winning artist Amy Fuller artwork captures the ephemeral nature of life by exploring the form and movement of animals and people as they navigate through different landscapes. Her technique\, a combination of loose and carefully-placed brushwork\, blends the boundaries between her subjects and their environments. Her mediums include oil\, India ink\, soft pastel\, copper\, silver\, and vitreous enamel. \nDownstairs Gallery: \nStep into the imaginative world of self-taught artist Emily Anderson. For several decades\, she has been focusing primarily on acrylic paintings and digital art. Pulling inspiration from fantasy and nature\, Anderson attempts to capture the emotion of a song or a moment\, and the adventures of Tabletop Roleplaying Games. \nWe can’t wait to see you there\, as we come together to support and celebrate the artists\, their stories and their creative visions that enrich our community.  \nLive Music: TBA \nRSVP on Facebook

SUMMARY:Dead of Winter: Tattoo Artists Exhibit at First Fridays
DESCRIPTION:DATE\nMarch 1st from 7pm-10pm\nLocation\nSmokestack 62 E 7th St\, Dubuque\, IA 52001\nGet Directions > \nEvent Details\nJoin us Friday\, February 2nd from 7pm-10pm at Smokestack. \nThis unique exhibition showcases the talents of a talented group of local and regional tattoo artists as they push the boundaries of artistic expression through mixed media on canvas. \n“We as tattoo artists are delighted to have this platform to showcase our passion on canvas\,” expressed the artists involved in the exhibit. “Often perceived as cheap imitators or ‘lowbrow’ within art communities\, we have witnessed a shift in the past decade. Tattoo artists are now being recognized for their quality standards and increasing popularity\, thanks to the support of collectors. This fine art exhibit created by local tattoo artists provides an opportunity for us to challenge ourselves\, explore new mediums\, and redefine expectations.” \nThe Dead of Winter art exhibit represents a significant step for tattoo artists to break free from stereotypes and showcase their skills in a different context. Despite the seasonal affective depression that often acts as a creative hurdle\, these artists continue to push forward to express their artistic talents. \nAristotle’s words\, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light\,” resonate with the artists involved in this exhibition. They view the Dead of Winter art exhibit as their light\, and they are deeply grateful for the chance to share it with the local community. \nArtists featured: \nKurt Urbain\nKarl Williams\nAli Lynch\nJoshua Clicquennoi\nGriffin Benson\nJulia “Frank” Sofolo\nGreg Howell\nKaitlyn Clemen\nTaylor Ross\nAngela AJ Jones\nAlec Bauer\nCristina Cruz\nBrandon Nalley\nLive Music: TBA \nRSVP on Facebook
